"Whatever God requires is right, no matter what it is, although we may not see the reason thereof until all of the events transpire."
--- Joseph Smith  (History of the Church, 5:135)

"My understanding is that the most important mission that I have in this life is first, to keep the commandments of God, as they have been taught to me; and next, to teach them to my Father's children who do not understand them."
--- George Albert Smith   (General Conference Report, October 1916, page 50)

"There are few comforts so sweet as to know that we have been an instrument in the hands of God in leading someone else to safety."
--- Elder Henry B. Eyring  (167th Annual General Conference, April 1997)

From: Emily Simmons

"My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions
shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes."
--- Doctrine and Covenants 121:7-8

My Dream Is You

There was a day when I cared so much,
but I gave it all for  a dream.
Dreams you say don't amount to much,
but this one I followed like a stream.

When the stream had ended, and you weren't there,
The loneliness I felt; I can not share.
As I walked down the sandy bank,
I knew I only had me to thank.

Each step I took I felt your pain,
Your great sorrow was I to blame.
When I woke from my lengthy dream,
I knew I had lost my only queen.

My Queen you say; is in my dream.
But I say to you; that isn't true.
I have found my long lost stream,
And my Queen is here; for it is you.

--- Stephen Dodson

From: Jessica Bruno

"Somehow, my dear young friends, we will stern the tide of untruth and
immorality that is sweeping the earth. It will be accomplished by you, the
youth of the Church, through your faith and strength. Don't be discouraged
at seemingly overwhelming odds in your desire to live and to help others
live God's commandments. At times it may seem like David trying to fight
Goliath. But remember, David did win."

--- David B. Haight   (Ensign, November 1977, page 58)

From: Liberty Sharp

"The greatest need of the human heart is encouragement. Let me whisper this
secret in your ear every time you try to encourage someone else. Your own
soul will be flooded with a light and glow of peace and god cheer. Try it next time when the gloom is heavy and the load is barren.

--- Susa Young Gates (RS Magazine September 1921)

"Sometimes in the deepest darkness there is no external light only an inner
light to guide and to reassure."

--- Neal A. Maxwell, Ensign, November 1994, pg. 35

From: "Kathleen Gadbury"

My 6th grader was very frightened to go to school on Friday, April 30th,
because of some threats that had circulated around our schools.  I tried
to calm his fears, but it wasn't until we went to the scriptures and read
this passage that he seemed to be able to take courage and attend school
that day.

Isaiah 41:10    Fear thou not; for I am with thee;  be not dismayed;
for I am thy God:  I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee: yea,
I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Our prayers are with the Columbine students and parents daily.

Part of quote of Joseph Smith at Liberty Jail Missouri, in Dec. 16, 1838.

"May grace, mercy, and peace, be and abide with you and notwithstanding
all your sufferings we assure you that you have our prayers and fervent
desires for your welfare both day and night. We believe that God who sees
us in this solitary place will hear our prayers and reward you openly. But
we say unto you that we consider our conditions better (notwithstanding our
sufferings) than those who have persecuted us and smitten us."

By Joseph Smith

"Happiness is a conscious choice, not an automatic response."
--- Mildred Barthel

"Adversity is a severe instructor, set over us by one who knows us better
than we do ourselves, as he loves us better too...."
--- Burke

"As sure as ever God puts his children in the furnace, He will be in the
furnace with them" - Spurgeon

"No affliction nor temptation, no guilt nor power of sin, no wounded
spirit nor terrified conscience, should induce us to despair of help
and comfort from God"
--- T. Scott

Peace
by Davina Sinclair

"On earth peace, good will toward men"
Heavenly hosts proclaimed.
When in such humble circumstance
A Savior came to reign.

Did shepherds wonder at the words?
Could an end this finally be
To oppression?  Will our struggles cease?
Will this king set us free?

A year upon another year
The story seldom changing.
This king wore no earthly crown
Oppression still is raging.

Peace, the early Christian thought.
Where peace in all this land?
Where the deliverance he sought
From persecutions hand?

Decade upon decade, still
The story seldom changing.
No conqueror of earthly pain.
Persecution still is raging.

Peace, the lonely soldier groans
As gun in hand he clasps
"I stand against my brother here
In wars horrific grasp."

Century upon century
The story seldom changing
Peace came not from a battle won
War, rampant still, is raging.

"Peace I leave with you.
My peace I give unto you:
Not as the world giveth
Give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled
Neither let it be afraid"

A day upon another day
With our lives the story changing
As we find within the peace he sends
Come kneel before the King.

From: "Liz Olmo"

My name is Liz. My seminary teacher shared this quote one day with
my class, and it influenced me so much that I had to get a copy. One of my
worst faults is that I fear that if I do something, I'll fail, or others
will object to my doing it. I want so much to do good and to make a
difference in the lives of others. This quote has really helped me. You may
have heard it before.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who are we to be gorgeous, talented,
and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God!
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so
that people don't feel insecure around you.
We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
--- Nelson Mandela

From: "Lori in GA"

"For the Lord suffereth the righteous to be slain that his justice and
judgment may come upon the wicked; therefore ye need not suppose that
the righteous are lost because they are slain; but behold, they do enter
into the rest of the Lord their God." (Alma 60:13)
