"WHEN THE ANGELS COME"
"Angels are real. God sends them to help us in our extremities. An angel came to the Apostle Paul in prison and loosed the chains that bound him. An angel stopped Nephi's brothers from beating him. God sends them to strengthen, teach, warn, and help his children.
The survivors of the Martin and Willie Handcart Companies spoke of help from angels when they could go no further, saying that they felt their carts were being pushed by unseen beings.
We are promised by the Lord today, as in days of old, that he will send his angels to bear us up and be round about us in our extremities (D&C 84:88). We believe in the ministering of angels."- Clark Kelley Price

Dear Denis and Amy,
In The Dark of the Night, Turn On The Light
I have been working with a group of youth leaders to put on a play based on the words of great men and women, with much of the usual opposition that happens when you have 30 or 40 youth involved in one production. Part of the purpose of this project is to involve kids that do not fit into many of the sporting-type activities that are usually offered. Many of the young men and young women have been deeply impacted by the events at both Littleton and Taber, Alberta and also at one of the high schools here in Calgary where there were similar threats made by a group of troubled youth.
When I was on the way to a practice and listening to all the update news of these dark events on my car radio and feeling the grief of the situation, the thought came to me that the very best way to find the way in the dark was to TURN ON THE LIGHT - to make a positive statement in word or action that would overcome the darkness. I suggested to the cast that we should consider our efforts in that 'light'; that we should give it our best as a kind of memorial and an example of something that would make a contribution towards avoiding the possibility of any young person feeling left out because they did not fit into the prevailing mold.
This project of yours is also an example of 'turning on the light', as are some of the other examples of caring and love that we have read about in the news. Reverend Lang, whose son was killed in Taber, said there had better be a meaning and purpose to these events. Maybe our light was getting dim and it needed to be regenerated.
With love from

"[Those who have come before us] left us many things of beauty, the greatest of which are their lessons of love and life - lessons that time will never forget, nor diminish. [Death] is not in vain, for [once] was written, "life is the greatest of all statements", and in great sacrifice volumes are spoken showing us that there are things not only worth dying for, but more importantly worth living for. For life's greatest philosophy is not handed down in stoic texts and dusty tomes, but lived, in each breath and act of human compassion. For love has always demanded sacrifice, and no greater love is there than that for which our lives are traded.
And in this great cause of spiritual evolution we are all called to be martyrs, to die each of us in the quest of a higher realm and loftier ideals, that we may know God.
And what if there is nothing else? What if all life ends in the silent void of death? Then is it all in vain? I think not. For love, for the sake of love, will always be enough. And if our lives are but a single flash in the dark hollow of eternity, then, if but for the briefest moment, we shine - then how brilliantly our light has burned! And as the starlight knows no boundary of space or time, so, too, our illumination will shine forth throughout all eternity, for darkness has no power to quell such light. And this is a lesson we must all learn and take to heart - that all light is eternal and all love is light. And it must forever be so." --- Richard Paul Evans from "The Letter"

"No other success can compensate for failure in the home." The poorest shack in which love prevails over a united family is of greater value to God and future humanity than any other riches.
In such a home God can work miracles- and will work miracles.

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winters evening. Some of us let these dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.

The following are quotes, which our family found which we felt may bring comfort, peace, and encouragement to our brothers and sisters in Littleton Co. My wife and I have three children, an 18 year old girl, a 17 year old son, and a 16 year old daughter. All of them in high school, and all of them in early morning seminary. We held our family home evening and looked for quotes of comfort and encouragement last night and these are the ones we liked most. There were many, but these are the ones that our kids liked best.
It's not what kind of car you have at home. It's not how many pairs of jungle boots you got back, or what you're saving. All these little things don't matter. We didn't come to this life with these things. We cam to be happy, to serve our fellow men to glorify God, to return to our Father in heaven. Victor L. Brown Conference Report October, 1968
This is true of most of us in life the letter that we did not write, the word of appreciation we intended to express but didn't not take the time, so many little things we could have done to brighten our lives and to brighten the lives of other. These are the lessons we do not learn until we cross over the threshold in life where we find that the words of Jesus are so true: It is more blessed to give than to receive. Howard W. Hunter BYU Speeches of the Year, April 26, 1961

When we suffer, God suffers too. In our most difficult times, we grow the most. If we look to God, He WILL help us through. It is there that we will discover the strength and courage that he has given to all of us. It will be easier to find and identify that strength and courage if we are on our knees. --- Unknown

I read this in a book called Voices from the Heart. It is a excellent book I recommend it very highly. This is a small passage from the book. It is by Marianne Willamson from her chapter Time to Stop Hiding. We live in a very critical moment, and each one among us is being asked by God to be a conduit for His work. We don't have to worry how God will transmit the instructions to us; if we are humble enough and willing enough, He will find a way. If we are willing to forgive and bless each other, if we seriously pray and meditate and practice the ways of devotion, if we follow our hearts whenever we feel there is a chance for us to serve an unfolding good, then we will contribute to a great wave of change. A shift of historic proportions is already under way as humanity makes the effort to evolve from an inner state of war to an outer state of peace. We are all just servants of a master plan. All we have to do is simply do what we can, then give praise and give thanks. The rest will follow. Thanks for giving me a chance to share this short passage.
