December 30, 2008 Some have supposed that trials

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

“”Some have supposed that trials are reserved only for the disobedient. But the scriptures make it clear that even the humble and obedient will face tribulation. Experience is a great teacher, and sometimes our hardest experiences can be our greatest teachers (see D&C 122:7). This may be why we are commanded to give thanks for all things (see Eph. 5:20). Some blessings come to us painfully. But the Lord promises that ‘he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious’ (D&C 78:19).”

I am 15 years old and just signed my dad up for the list

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Denis,
I just wanted to thank you and let you know how much I appriciate your willingness to keep the wow quote list going.  I am 15 years old and just signed my dad up for the list.  About nine months ago he moved out of the house and has just gotten the internet at his work.  So I signed him up and the first quote was the one that you shared your story with all of us. That day after he had comfirmed everything and got the message, he e-mailed me and told me, “You really know how to hit a guy hard though with today’s quote being the first one I get.”  I am hoping that through the list he might regain the feeling of the spirit and realize what he is doing to his family.  I just thought you might like to know how much of an impact your willingness has had on my life and hopefully will have on my father’s life.
Thanks for you time,
Jennifer

The church is so small out here.

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Dear Denis, I am a youth that adored what you have set up. I am 17 years old and I am living in Virginia. The church is so small out here. I moved out here to live with my sister who is jewish and your mailing list is the only contact I have with the church from Sunday to Sunday. I was raised in Mesa Arizona. I have been LDS for all of my life. I really miss being surounded with people who love the Lord as I do. Your services are really appreciated and I think you have more young people than you realize.
With love,
Lesa

“Houseless” before age 18

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I’ve written to you before about how much I really love getting your daily quote.  I wrote to you back in February about how your quotes were helping to cheer me up, cause I had just sent my boyfriend off on a mission.  Well, I just wanted to tell you that today’s quote really hit home with me, too!  A year and a half ago, 6 days before my 18th birthday, my family’s house burned down.  It was what the fire department calls a “total loss.”  But, the Lord’s hand was evident in this disaster, and much good came out of it!!!  But the reason this quote hits hard, is that even though we were “houseless”  and living in a motel room until a more permanent place could be found, the love we have for each other, and need to stick together at such an awful time, brought us closer together, and made those hotel rooms home.

Thank you for your daily quotes.  I love them.  And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  :)
Sincerely,
Becky

17 Year Old - Thanks

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

My name is Breeann, I  just wanted to let you know just how great an effect your list DOES have on the youth.  I am 17 years old and have been on your mailing list for a few months now.  I also try to send in quotes whenever I get the chance, because I realize that we all need to work together.

Your mailing list has done a wonderful job of touching my heart each & every day.  You help bring the Spirit into my life & make me smile when I’m down or tired.  I have several friends that I e-mail quite regularly - most are 18 and younger.  One of the things I do almost every day is send them a copy of at least one quote - most are from you.  I am working on them to become members of your list and hopefully soon they will get these wonderful thoughts straight from you.  Your quotes and thoughts have lifted may of them is times of need and, more often than you would think, are just the right word at JUST the right moment.

In my Laurel class we had decided to make quote boxes & since on my computer I file ALL of the quotes I got, I thought I should share.  Many of the girls don’t get e-mail, so this was a wonderful way to share you’re uplifting thoughts.  Then a few weeks ago, for a Laurel project, I taught the Beehive class of girls how to make a quote box, and needless to say, the boxes are quite full!  By dong that I was also able to share the thoughts with many leaders, who have all decided to up date there own boxes & make them useful again instead of just sitting in some lost drawer.  Funny as it is, I’ve been kind of thought of now as the “quote lady” and was quite amused when a member of our bishopric told me he was to give a talk & if I had any quotes that might apply!  It wasn’t very surprising to find I had plenty!

I was also able to collect many thought and notes to share with several 12 year old girls at girls camp, while I was their YCL.

I just wanted to let you know, that your hours of effort and work are definitely not being wasted!  You have been able to reach hearts and minds of MANY in times of joy and of sarrow, MANY, MANY of them being youth.  Thank you so very, very much for all that you do.  If there is ever anything at all that I can do to aid you with the list, please just let me know!  The worth of this list is beyond measure for all the good it does in the hearts men.
Thank you so very much!
Breeann

16 Year old from Washington

Dear Brother Nurmela,

You are the most amazing person.  How one man can manage to send a different inspirational quote EVERY SINGLE DAY to over 1200 is amazing to me.  You have more dedication than I could ever have.    I admire you very much, you do something that few people would ever try to do.

I am actually a convert to the Church.  I am 16 years old and was baptised on June 21 of this year. (1997) :) A few months before my baptism, my friend and I would write up little quotes for each other every day.  They were our “thoughts for the day”.  Sometimes I’d borrow a good one from you.  Anyway I’d just like to thank you again.  Particularly for the quote on being cheerful.  I can’t remember what day that it was but, I had been going through a phase when I just wasn’t myself and it sort of reminded me to cheer up.  Thanks.
Sincerely,
Stephanie (of the Kirkland Washington stake)
